Fair winds today and a fairly flat sea, so we decided to head up the coast to the Cinque Terre region. Beautiful little coves and villages cling to the hillside here with a little train running in and out of the tunnels that hug the coastline. We definitely had the better view over most of the tourists that visit those villages – we moved around the restricted zone with the other boats, and it was only when we reached Montesoro al Mare that we stopped for the afternoon.
Heading back we went in via Portovenere – so pretty in the evening and we watched the holiday makers getting off the ferries heading for home.
We were crossing the Golfo del Spezia and saw a plane swooping very low – it looked as if it was going to land but instead stopped up water and then headed off in the direction of where lots of smoke was appearing in the distance – we watched until it was a speck in the sky- eventually it came back, once again swooping low, picking up seawater.
I am not surprised there have been fires, it has been very hot and sun cream is a must if you are not going to end up with sun burn. The Italians do not seem to wear any and they are all as brown as berries! White speedos seem to be the range to show off tans!
We returned to the mobile home feeling really tired! Tomorrow our wedding anniversary and Portofino!
